Bridge Bash ~ A Huge Success

Approximately 2,000 people gathered September 22, 2012 on the RM Ruthven Bridge in Cotter, Arkansas in support of Hunger Action Month for Bridge Bash 2012 sponsored by the Food Bank of North Central Arkansas. While the goal of today’s event was to raise $50,000 and provide 250,000 meals. Food Bank Executive Director, Jeff Quick reported the event exceeded expectations raising $62,765. The monies raised along with a donation of 20,000 pounds of food from Sysco and Gaston’s White River Resort will allow the Food Bank of North Central Arkansas to provide over 328,000 meals.

This second annual event invited residents of the region to “Stand Up for Hope”, and promised participants that their $20 donation would provide 100 meals to those in need. With a staggering 30,000 plus residents of the nine counties served by the Food Bank considered food insecure, efforts ensured Food Bank clients will have plenty for the Thanksgiving season.

Headlining the event was Nashville recording artists The Lost Trailers. Festival attendees enjoyed a day of music, arts and crafts, antique car & motorcycle show and a dog show sponsored by the City of Cotter. Event Coordinator and Food Bank Development Director, Katie Shay shared “We had a beautiful day for people to enjoy the festival, learn about the issues surrounding food insecurity, and support our mission of Building Bridges from Hunger to Hope.”
